Pipe Elbows

Pipe Elbows

Description

Pipe elbows are used to change the direction of flow in piping systems and are one of the most commonly used components in industrial piping systems. Typical elbow angles include 45°, 90° and 180°, with long radius and short radius configurations depending on piping design requirements and flow characteristics.

In industrial piping systems, pipe elbows are normally installed together with butt weld fittings, pipes and pipe flanges to form complete piping assemblies. Elbows are widely used in high-pressure, high-temperature and corrosion-resistant piping systems in petrochemical plants, offshore platforms, refineries and power plants.

Pipe elbows are manufactured in accordance with international piping standards and supplied with full material traceability and inspection documentation for EPC and industrial projects.

Specifications / Standards

Pipe elbows are manufactured according to international piping and pressure vessel standards to ensure dimensional accuracy, pressure rating compliance and welding compatibility.

Typical standards include:

ASME B16.9 – Factory-Made Butt Welding Fittings
ASME B16.28 – Short Radius Elbows
MSS SP-75 – High Yield Butt Weld Fittings
EN 10253-2 – Butt Weld Fittings for Pressure Purposes
EN 10253-4 – Stainless Steel Butt Weld Fittings
ASTM A234 – Carbon Steel Pipe Fittings
ASTM A403 – Stainless Steel Pipe Fittings
ASTM A815 – Duplex Stainless Steel Pipe Fittings
ASTM B366 – Nickel Alloy Pipe Fittings
EN 10204 – Inspection Certificates

Pipe elbows are typically supplied together with stainless steel pipe fittings and piping materials for complete project material packages.

Special sizes and custom elbows can be manufactured according to project drawings and piping isometrics.

Manufacturing Process

The manufacturing process for pipe elbows typically includes:

Raw material pipe selection
Cutting
Hot forming / Induction bending
Cold forming (for small sizes)
Heat treatment (Normalizing / Solution Annealing)
Bevel machining
Surface treatment (Pickling / Passivation / Shot blasting)
Marking and traceability
Inspection and testing
Packing and shipment

All elbows are traceable from raw material heat number to final inspection documentation.

Inspection & Testing

Inspection and testing may include:

Visual inspection
Dimensional inspection
PMI (Positive Material Identification)
Mechanical testing
Hardness testing
Ultrasonic testing (UT)
Dye penetrant testing (PT)
Magnetic particle testing (MT)
Radiography testing (RT) for welded elbows
Hydrostatic testing (if required)
Third-party inspection (SGS / BV / TUV / DNV)

Inspection certificates can be provided according to EN 10204 3.1 or 3.2.
